The participants discussed many topics in a very constructive manner. A very consequent and concrete result is the birth of the Transnational Federation of Couriers meaning an internationalization of the struggle against food delivery platforms (Deliveroo, UberEats, Glovo, Stuart,…).
Key discussions :
1. Ways to organize: reaching workers, spaces for meetings and assemblies, methods of action: rallies, disconnections, strikes, occupations, pickets, repression and links between cities. In this regard, all participants were aware of the difficulties to organize the workers in the sector due to high turnover, atomisation and the presence of migrant worker.
2. The question of (false) freelance or employed workers was also at the centre of the concerns. The situation varies from a country to another but riders agreed on several demand as respect and fair working conditions for all (see declaration below)!
3. The specificity of having an algorithm changing constantly the working conditions is a question to be tackle. The question of the data recollection by platforms (clients as well as workers information) is another important concern.
This event showed the capacity of our Network to be a concrete tool for social struggles. Connecting actors, we are able to improve in a concrete way, the internationalization of struggles. Alter Summit has showed its capacity to be a forum where European issues are debated as well as a space of organization for the transnationalization of struggles.
